Operations Team

My dad always tells me if you can look in the mirror at the end of the day and say, “I did everything to the best of my ability,” then you can’t really ask anymore of yourself.

I’m an investment associate. What that means varies by the day. We do everything from trades, reconcile cash in every client account, we help with research projects. Everything comes through operations—which is great because we have our hands in all parts of the firm.

Anyone who’s calling into the office knows that we know them. We’re the first person to speak with a client and we know if something’s going really well for them or not. Operations is many things, but it’s mainly paying close attention to details, awareness, and putting the client first.

I think what I do is important because people work really hard to save money.

“It’s important that we make things as painless as possible for our clients and that’s how I see my role.”

It’s important that we make things as painless as possible for our clients and that’s how I see my role. To hear someone say, ‘My parents were with Zevenbergen, and I want to stay with Zevenbergen,’ that’s the greatest feeling in the world.

I also work with our compliance team, with client service, with the portfolio management team. I’m often the person ferrying projects between teams to make sure that all relevant parties have signed off on something, or agree with it.

I love the people here. I’m from Chicago, so my family lives far away and I do consider this my family.  If there’s anything to celebrate, I’m usually the first one to say, let’s do something. I think I’m good at that human thing of connecting everyone.

I am a huge sports fan, a huge Cubs fan, and I’m a Blackhawks fan, too. So I do like to go to Mariners games (my second favorite team) and Husky football games in the fall.

A recent project of mine has been to work with our Director of Mutual Fund Sales, Bill Cook. He’s our first and only remote employee, which has been a bit of a learning curve for a firm that is 30 years old — I’m his in-office liaison.

It’s really easy to get caught up in the market, and what’s going on there. But I think you always want to come back to why we’re here, which is to provide the best service we can to our clients.
